Project objectives

General objective

Consolidation of the economic and social development of the Roma from the steppe area of southeastern Romania (10 localities from 5 counties) through cultural interventions and modern art.

Specific objectives

SO 1: Empowering 64 Roma youth/students by developing skills specific to cultural and creative sectors that increase employment opportunities and economic level in the future – creative writing workshops and digital narrative photography.

The development of skills and abilities will especially aim at increased employability, obtaining better jobs, implicitly increasing the standard of living of the beneficiaries, their family and ultimately the community. Empowerment aims at both social attitudes, creates behaviors favorable to positive reception and inclusion, which increases community cohesion and consolidates a satisfactory degree of economic and social development.

SO 2: Strengthening the cultural identity of 30 Roma youth/students from the steppe area of Romania (10 localities from 5 counties) through non-formal education – storytelling workshops, experiential theater and traditional culinary art.

Strengthening cultural identity will highlight the positive elements of the Roma lifestyle and culture, increase self-esteem and respect for the ethnic group to which they belong. Through the acquired skills, the participants will be able to publicly communicate favorable information about the Roma ethnicity with impact, generating effects that are in favor of the community. Good communication about the specific cultural profile and elements will generate elimination of discrimination, inclusion and economic and social strengthening of the community.

SO 3: Improving the reception of Roma culture and increasing inclusion by making and promoting artistic productions/cultural products (documentary film, Roma cuisine recipe, exhibitions) made following the research of 10 communities.

Strengthening the economic and social development of a community can only be achieved under the conditions in which all disadvantaged groups are integrated and helped to develop. In order to increase inclusion and eliminate discriminatory behaviors, activities are implemented through which cultural products are created that allow knowing the positive elements specific to Roma. Cultural events with joint participation are also organized to promote desegregation and stimulate cooperation and cohesion.
